How does sheep grazing benefit the environment?

The grazing of lambs offers low-cost, natural benefits to the environment and wildlife habitats.  Lambs eat grasses, brush, weeds and other plants, thus controlling undergrowth and potentially helping to prevent the spread of forest fires.  The US Forest Service has used sheep grazing to decrease soil erosion and to help regenerate tree growth after fires.

Grazing lamb flocks also help control undergrowth in forests and naturally limit weed growth in vineyards and other areas. This is without the use of chemical herbicides and/or mechanical equipment.
